More About Butterflies and Caterpillars

I picked up the kids from daycare this afternoon, and it was the first time I picked up Kellen from the new room. He's been spending more and more time in the new room - sounds like he was there most of the day today. He seemed really proud to show me around the room and point everything out to me. It was nice, because I didn't know where they keep the go-home logs in this room, but the board they are posted on was a stopping point on the little 'tour' Kellen gave me. He is really excited to have access to a little sink. He managed to hold one hand under the tap and then turn it on wide open with the other. It sprayed his face and shirt. He didn't seem to mind.

After I picked up Kellen, we went to Kristin's room to pick her up. Her class was playing outside, so we went out to get her. I put Kellen down to collect Kristin and hear about her day from her teacher. Kellen went right for the slide.

No rain this evening, so we took our usual walk. There was two baseball games goin on at the park. We found two baseballs. One new one in the ditch behind the backstop and one water logged one in the blackberries in the foul ball territory adjacent to the left field line.

Kristin's go home book was about butterflies. The sentence she wrote about it in her journal was something to the effect of 'I didn't know that catupltrs eat thar eggsail'. So then we talk about how to spell the words, but we don't worry about correcting them at this point. I explained that she actually spelled 'sail' instead of shell. She responded, 'oh, so maybe somebody could buy the eggs!'

Did I post this picture yet? I can't remember.

200 and Counting

Wow! We hit 200 blog posts yesterday. Aaron and I are tired... not from blogging, but from being up last night. Both of us had a hard time sleeping and Kellen has a cough again. Oh well.

Kellen had another great day at daycare with his transition. This morning he got to go on a fire truck and talk to 2 fire fighters. They evidently had a lot of fun with that.

Kristin was excited to tell me that she got to spend a little time with Kellen at daycare this afternoon. They made guacamole for an afternoon snack cooking project and to continue celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Sounds like most of the daycare got together. Kristin and Kellen's classes are both working on some Mother's Day art. I haven't seen the art, but Kellen had a purple hand today when I picked him up. The watercolors they used weren't as washable as they thought. That is okay, by the end of bath it was pretty much all off. :)

Now for some sleep.

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Kristin made this awesome hat at daycare:
They also made a pinata today too. What fun!
This evening we managed to sneak in a walk between the rain storms. It's really been raining here lately. Not the usual Portland drizzle, but good old fashoned midwestern style rain storms. Anyway, we were surprised to find a Little Leage baseball game being played at the elementary school. They must play through the rain. We didn't find any baseballs tonight. We found a couple of baseballs, but they were old and rotten. Kellen pulled the wagon a good bit as well.
Kellen had another good day at daycare. His transition to the next classroom is going well as he spent most of the day there and didn't ask for his binki at nap time.

"Twenty-Tooth"

Kristin was excited to have had recess this morning on the playground (not restricted to under cover), since it was to rain all day. So, Kristin played on the monkey bars. She told Aaron tonight that she has gotten all the way across the school monkey bars "twenty-tooth" times. :)

At daycare, Kristin got to make a large sombrero for Cinco de Mayo. It is really neat. We will hopefully bring it home tomorrow, since it was raining pretty hard when I picked up the kids tonight.

Kellen spent most of his day in the Caterpillar room (next room for 2 year olds). He did really well, so he stayed for a good portion of the day. He even napped in there and without his binki!!! He didn't even ask for it.
Here is a picture from our trip last month to the tulip farm. What big feet you have Kristin!

An Open Door

This morning, Kellen managed to open the bathroom door while Kristin and Danelle were in there trimming Kristin's nails. Won't be long now probably until he is opening doors at will. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Danelle had lunch out with the girls to celabrate a birthday, so the kids and I took advantage and went out for a mother's-day errand. Kristin was very well behaved and a good helper, but Kellen threw and on-the-floor-kicking-and-screaming fit at the cash register. And I had just bought him a balloon, too. I suppose he didn't like the color or something. Or maybe he was tired and hungry. We got him home, he ate a good lunch, and then went right down for a nap.

Kristin and I picked up pine cones knocked out of the trees in the back yard by the storm yesterday. We collected two full 5 gallon buckets full.

We all went out for a short walk after nap time, but got rained on so we made it a short one. No hunting for baseballs today.

We must have worn out Kristin this weekend. This is her on the couch after bath this evening. She's watching a hockey game. :-) Earlier in the day, she asked me why the overtime was so long and aren't they supposed to do a shootout now? The rules are different in the playoffs I told her, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much she had picked up on the rules during the regular season.

Soccer with No Rain

We got away with no rain at soccer today. We did get a lot of rain today, just not during the 1 1/2 of soccer. Hooray!!! Kristin had a lot of fun with soccer. We all went to the practice/game. So, Aaron nicely took Kellen watch while I watched Kristin, since I missed the first round. Kellen found the long jump pits (big sand boxes) and was very occupied with wet sand. Oh well. He did sit and watch for awhile when we first got there and while he at his lunch later. Aaron and I decided that we will likely just take turns going to soccer with Kristin.

After Kellen's nap I took the kids to get their hair cuts in for the month. Kristin asked for 2 inches off (we did that last time too). So, her hair is just past her shoulders. She was happy about it. We also headed to the store before we came home. Aaron had a hockey game tonight and they won! After dinner we headed outside for a little bit to clean up the front yard from the storm that hit with pounding rain and wind while we were getting hair cuts. There were plenty of sticks for Kristin to pick up. Kellen and Kristin both helped me with some sweeping of the driveway and sidewalk. Then it was popcorn time. So we headed in for popcorn and watched Elmo (Kellen actually will watch a little Elmo on TV now). Good for a short distraction. Kristin watched a little bit of a Scooby Doo movie while I gave Kellen a bath. Aaron made it home before bedtime and the kids were excited to see him and Kristin was happy he won his game.

Another Busy Day with Lots to Report

Kellen's eyes were much better today. We caught it early enough I guess. He was even able to go to daycare today.

Kristin's kindergarten class let the butterflies go today. She said one of them just went straight to the ground and rested - she said it must not have known how to fly.

Our walk this evening was quite eventful. Kellen wanted to take his lawn mower along, so we let him. We brought the wagon along as a precuation. He made it all the way to the elementary school pushing and dragging his little lawnmower. Then it was a race to the slide for Kellen and the monkey bars for Kristin. After that, we headed toward the trail behind the backstop of the baseball field. There was a little league practice going on, and there were baseballs everywhere. Kristin scoured the drainage ditch behind the backstop and found 4 baseballs. I found 2. We threw three of the balls to the team practicing. They didn't seem too concerned with us, and we never saw any balls fouled off to our area, so we didn't think the balls were theirs. A little further on the trail, behind another ball field, Danelle caught the bug and dug a baseball out of the blackberries. While we were on the trail, Kellen insisted on pulling the wagon (with his lawnmower in it).
Here's a picture of Kellen enjoying a brownie for dessert.
